Half + Full Marathon Communications Stream

Team World Vision is one of the fastest-growing endurance charities in the country. For nearly 20 years, Team World Vision has recruited people all over the country (and even internationally!) to do extremely hard things for the most vulnerable kids worldwide, specifically by running half and full marathons, and the occasional ultra or even triathlon. Each year, over 80% of the participants have never run a 5K. They’re also being asked to raise money for clean water projects, which adds another complex dynamic. In order to guide this amazing group of people, myself and my team have created resources to equip them throughout their 26-week training journey. In 2023, we re-imagined what these weekly words of encouragement and guidance would be, as our charity’s open rate has remained at 55% over the last 10 years.

If you want to go fast, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

TEAM WORLD VISION ANNUAL CALENDAR

Team World Vision has several components and types of events that participants are recruited for. There are over 14 half and full marathons that are offered to be part of, all spanning over the entire year, which are called “Endurance” events. There is also an offering of invitationals, which push our participants even further by doing things like hiking a mountain or biking 100 miles. This was one of the challenges of this project: to create a communications journey that met each person where they are in the training and fundraising journey, finding that silver lining of customization and personalization.

CONTENT PLANNING

To mindfully plan the content, we leaned on our yearly calendar to dictate when certain key moments fell in a training journey. We kept an even balance of not overwhelming the user (or runner) by information about training or raising money. We understood that their “yes” to running a race was extremely intimidating, so we established clear goals for each week, with a hierarchy that felt balanced.

VISUAL Hierarchy + Components

Once content was finalized, we created a visual system to give clear identifiers and indicators for each week. We utilizied World Vision’s secondary brand colors to call out these categories and achieve visual balance so that information can be comprehended evenly.

MASTER TEMPLATE DESIGN

Below is a master template built in Figma, then coded in HTML, meeting the specific coding needs of the donor platform used.
